Zachman Certified

Zachman Certified - Tool

ZCTool-Seal72dpi

The Zachman Certified™ - Tool designation is virtually identical to the Zachman Certified™ - Methodology designation because in essence, a Tool is the automation of some methodology, whether it is in storing artifacts or facilitating the creation of artifacts. The Zachman Certified™ - Tool designation is based upon a mapping of the meta model of the Tool to the metamodel of The Zachman Framework™, essentially answering the following questions:

  • Does the Tool facilitate the production of and retrieval of primitive models that conform to The Zachman Framework™ which are used in the Tool’s composite implementations?
  • Which primitive models (Cells) does the Tool produce and/or store?
  • Which horizontal integrations are supported in the creation of the implementation composites?
  • Which vertical transformations are supported in the realization of the business alignment and the instances?
  • Does the Tool enforce the implicit understanding of diagonal composites from horizontally and vertically integrated primitives?
  • Certification fees are assessed per cell.

There are two parts to this certification. In the first part, the requester identifies which cells are to be considered for certification. The cells considered are evaluated and objectively given a numerical rating (Coverage Index) based on the primitive models and the components in relation to the entire Framework set. If a cell wins the designation as "Zachman Certified™ it will be so marked. If only some portion of the cell is formalized, the cell may be considered "authorized" and a portion of the certification fees assessed proportionately.

Zachman International is responsible for the second part. Additionally, as part of the certification process and fees, we will then perform an analysis on the capacity and robustness of the integrations across each row and transformations down each column for each "certified" cell. An objective, numerical rating will be assigned based upon the percentage of the total possible integrations and transformations (Capacity Index) and their degree of association (Robustness Index) which will be reported and posted on the Zachman.com site.

However, despite the fact that there are numerical ratings, the important thing about this certification is that it confirms that Enterprise Engineering work is being addressed by the Tool as opposed to merely Systems Building work. In part 1, the evaluation of the quality and appropriateness of the Tool is based upon the Enterprise Engineering design objectives... which Primitives does the Enterprise need to get under control and from which "architected" Primitives must the Enterprise’s implementations and realizations be composed.

If a Tool is, in fact, Zachman Certified™, it, by definition, could be enhanced to support important Enterprise-critical applications including impact analysis, configuration management and versioning. Furthermore, these applications could conceivably be employed to support simulations of changes to any Cell that is formalized and stored and determine the impacts on any other Cell that was integrated or transformed from the changed Cell, including the Row 6 Instantiated Cells. This would be a very powerful capability for General Management in responding to or initiating changes in the Enterprise’s environment.

Zachman Certified - Methodology

Zachman Certified Methodology

The Zachman Certified™ - Methodology designation is based upon a mapping of the metamodel of the Methodology to the meta model of The Zachman Framework™, essentially answering the following questions:

  • Does the Methodology produce primitive models that conform to The Framework metamodel from which the methodological composite implementations are derived?
  • Which primitive models (Cells) does the Methodology produce?
  • Which horizontal integrations are supported in the creation of the implementation composites?
  • Which vertical transformations are supported in the realization of the instantiations?
  • Does the Methodology infer diagonal composites from horizontally and vertically integrated primitives?

Certification fees are assessed per cell.

The Zachman Certified - Enterprise Architect Program

ZCEArchitect-Seal72dpi

After countless discoveries about the science of Enterprise Architecture from the Zachman Framework 3.0; and due to unprecedented demand, we are proud to offer the Zachman Certified™ - Enterprise Architect program.

This hand's-on modeling workshop, we develop the science behind EA, as derived from the Zachman Framework Ontology. We'll be looking at real-life examples and case studies from real consulting projects and finally give you the ability to answer the question "how do I use The Zachman Framework?" We "workshop" how to build and implement PRIMITIVE models and then actually see how that once you get some primitives built, then creating and changing the composite models and implementations in order to get at General Management problems is quite simple. We explore this by using several methodologies and tools that will help you "implement" the Zachman concepts in your enterprise. Understanding this "science" offers great capability to EAs for analysis and simulation solutions in their enterprise. It is a different EA paradigm!

This Level 1 course not only prepares you to take the Level 1 Zachman® exam in order to obtain your Zachman Certified™ - Enterprise Architect Associate (Level 1) designation, but also prepares you to present your case study for designation as a Zachman Certified™ - Enterprise Architect Practitioner (Level 2).

Introduction

The Zachman Certified™ - Enterprise Architect program enables working professionals to develop the theoretical and technical skills needed in the 21st century workplace. More and more companies are looking for employees or consultants who can demonstrate command and deliver results in this wide body of knowledge. Some of those now even making Zachman Framework™ certification a requirement.

A distinctive element of this program is "reality-based learning," or the process of integrating theory with work and life experience. Practical in its design, the Zachman Certified™ Courses gives today's Enterprise Architects the opportunity to strengthen their skills as well as broaden their understanding of industry trends and the use of The Zachman Framework™. This program grants a professionally relevant certification, opening up opportunities for career advancement and enhanced marketability. It is also a valuable tool for companies and organizations striving to set a higher standard for internal and external performance assessment, establishing hiring criteria, and improved market positioning.

Certification requires taking the necessary Zachman courses and passing of the objective Zachman Enterprise Architecture Examination. This is a life-long commitment to professionalism in your chosen career in the IS/IT field. Your certification is equivalent to the same level of credential as available for Doctors, Accountants and Engineers.

Each candidate in the Zachman Certified™ program, can view their individual transcripts on Zachman.com (available early 2012). Once certification is complete, each Zachman Certified™ – Enterprise Architect is searchable by anyone on Zachman.com. Their listing will include their achieved Zachman Certified™ level (1, 2, 3 or 4), if their status is current, along with their unique Zachman Certified™ seal with embedded Architect ID.

"If any person or company claims to do something with, or know something about The Zachman Framework, or they claim to be Certified in The Zachman Framework and their name does not appear when searched on the Zachman International at Zachman.com, then I would have to question the veracity of their claim and whether or not they actually know anything about the fundamental concepts embodied in The Zachman Framework."
